9 Fun Fact About Gintoki Sakata That You Probably Didn't Know

Gintoki Sakata is the main protagonist of the anime Gintama. He is a very skilled samurai who fought in the Joui War in the past.

Now along with his 2 friends, Shinpachi and Kagura, he establish Yorozuya Gin-Chan, a sort of private detective bureau that accept any job.

Now we will give you 9 fact about Gintoki Sakata that you probably didn't know!

1. Gintoki Sakata can sleep with his eyes open.

In anime Gintama episode 110, Kagura can sleep with her eyes open. According to Gintama.wikia, Gintoki Sakata also can do that. Although I never seen that.

2. He can't swim.

This was confirmed by Tama on Lesson 472 with hinted to Gintoki to using floaties or stay away from the water throughout the series.

3. Very good at cooking

According to Sorachi Hideaki (Mangaka Gintama) in Gintama, VIZ media, Vol. 13, "Sorachi Q&A; Hanging with the Readers #38", page 106, Gintoki is a skilled chef.

He once made a strawberry cake in Shinpachi's house in episode 2.

4. His birthday is the same with Naruto Uzumaki

Both were born on 10 October.

5. He afraid of dentist

In Episode 175, it is revealed that Gintoki Sakata is afraid of dentist. Not only Gintoki, Hijikata also afraid of them.

6. His character based on Sorachi's characters from a rejected one-shot story

According to Sorachi, Gintoki's character is based on Sakata Tomiko and Gorouzaemon, a characters from his rejected one-shot story before Gintama.

Interestingly, Gintoki's design who we know today actually is the design for Hijikata.

Because of Sorachi lose Gintoki's original character design, so he used Hijikata's character design as Gintoki.

7. He never using scooter goggles again because the mangaka pain to draw it

Gintoki used to have scooter goggles fastened around his neck during the early stages of the manga, but they soon disappeared due to Sorachi Hideaki stating that they were a pain to draw.
